Full Time Cambuslang Scottish Power

The CAD Designer position at Scottish Power in Cambuslang offers a salary ranging from £42,000 to £52,500 and is a permanent role. The Drawing Office is expanding to meet increasing business demands, and the CAD Designer will play a key role in developing and implementing engineering drawing solutions for Transmission Network Projects (132kV and above). The role requires technical skills and attention to detail to ensure high standards and team success.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Preparation of drawings for complex transmission/distribution projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Collecting relevant information to produce accurate drawings.
  • Promoting the use of drawing standards and procedures.
  • Ensuring adherence to externally audited QA systems.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of drawing office databases.
  • Maintaining an auditable design/design change system for BS EN 9001 accreditation.
  • Assessing engineering drawings during the approval process.
  • Providing guidance and support to team members.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work to clients.
  • Preparing and reviewing drawing documentation and processes.
  • Updating project staff and clients on work progress and issues.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of different drawing types in construction project packs.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering design principles and health & safety requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk products, including AutoCAD 2020, Vault, ACC, ProjectWise, Revit, and MS Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage client satisfaction and deadlines.
  • Capability to investigate civil and substation design aspects.
  • Experience in providing assistance to team members.
  • Contributions to continuous improvement initiatives in drawing office functions.

We will also take into account

  • Experience in Civil/Substation Layouts Design, Cable Route Design, Overhead Lines Design, or Electrical Protection and Control.
  • HNC in relevant engineering fields or previous experience in electrical engineering drawing office.
  • Understanding of Transmission Substation Design.
  • Proven experience in engineering design and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of drawing standards and procedures.
  • Possession of a UK driving license.
